Narathiwat: A bomb explosion at a ranger dormitory within a temple in Tambon Tanyongmat, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, has left four ranger volunteers injured.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place at 6:45 a.m. inside Wat Chai Ratana. The attack targeted a knock-down house in the temple that served as the dormitory for the 4503rd Ranger Company, 45th Ranger Regiment. The explosion resulted in injuries to four officers: Volunteer Defense Corpsman Masabree, aged 32, Volunteer Defense Corpsman Jaknarong, aged 30, Volunteer Defense Corpsman Economics, and Volunteer Defense Corpsman Ayuming, aged 39.
The blast caused significant damage to the surrounding area. Two 10-meter long sections of the temple fence were destroyed, and the dormitory building suffered extensive damage, particularly in the kitchen area. Nearby, two houses belonging to villagers also sustained damage, affecting glass, doors, roofs, ceilings, and property.
CCTV footage revealed that the attack was carried out by two individuals. One perpetrator rode a motorcycle with a sidecar, concealing a bomb inside a cooking gas tank. The bomb was detonated using an IC timer circuit. After planting the bomb, the first perpetrator joined the second on a motorcycle and fled the scene. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and pursuing the suspects, with indications suggesting the attack aimed to disrupt the Thai New Year celebrations.
