Pattaya: Another sighting of black-chinned tilapia fry has been reported on Pattaya beach, prompting calls for urgent action from authorities to prevent potential ecological impacts. The presence of these juveniles has raised concerns about their possible spread and the subsequent effects on the local marine ecosystem.
According to Thai News Agency, reporters conducted a survey of the Pattaya beach area, observing that tourists and locals continue to fish for squid along the shoreline. Discussions with Mr. Start, a 40-year-old local resident and owner of a video clip documenting the black-chinned grouper and multiple fish caught using his net, revealed significant details about the situation.
Mr. Start shared that since the initial discovery of the black-chinned tilapia, dozens of kilograms have been captured using nets. During his most recent attempt near the beach, he found numerous small black-chinned tilapia, although their numbers had decreased compared to two days earlier. He emphasized the need for authorities to address the issue promptly, expressing concerns about the long-term implications for the marine ecosystem and environment in the Pattaya area. Officials are currently conducting investigations to understand the situation better and assess the potential impact on marine resources.
