Kuala lumpur: “Big Lek,” officially known as General Natthapol Nakphanit, the Thai Minister of Defense, has arrived in Malaysia to discuss the ongoing fence construction issue with the General Border Committee (GBC). The meeting, held in Kuala Lumpur, marks the 2/2025 Special Meeting of the GBC between Thailand and Cambodia. General Natthapol assured that the situation is under control, with over 90% progress achieved, and stressed that there is no cause for concern. He noted that the remaining discussions with the Cambodian GBC Chairman focus on Thailand’s original four conditions.
According to Thai News Agency, General Natthapol acknowledged that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting, where Cambodia declined to authorize the fence construction, will be further deliberated in the GBC setting. The JBC resolution, reached in Chanthaburi Province, agreed to accelerate the Terms of Reference (TOR) 2003 by employing LiDAR technology to create a photographic map of the boundary. Furthermore, it was decided to place temporary markers at Ban Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo. These markers will help verify the boundary before the findings are forwarded to the government for land ownership adjustments. Notably, the Cambodian side removed the border fence construction from the agenda, citing a lack of authority to address this matter.
