Bangkok:Collaborative efforts are underway to restore the Sai Mai district after severe flooding. Various sectors are working together to clean the area and help residents resume normal activities.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Pornprom Wikitseth, presided over the launch of the "United Efforts for Post-Flood Recovery in Sai Mai District" event. Held at the Bangchak Wittanasap Sai Mai gas station, the event gathered representatives from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), government agencies, the military, private sector, and volunteers.
The activity focuses on cleaning up waste, debris, and maintaining sanitation in flood-affected areas. The BMA's Environmental and Public Health Departments, various district offices, and other government agencies are collaborating to expedite recovery efforts. The goal is to restore normalcy for residents as swiftly as possible.
Efforts include collecting accumulated waste and large debris, with multipurpose areas designated as collection points. Between September 28 and October 3, 2026, Bangkok collected 1,468.27 tons of waste. The cleanup involves 550 personnel from multiple agencies and operational vehicles. The BMA aims not only to manage waste but also to assist residents in returning to normal life quickly, coordinating with the private sector and vocational institutions for additional support.
The flooding, caused by heavy rainfall between September 25-27, 2026, was exacerbated by Bangkok's terrain, leading to the declaration of Sai Mai as a disaster area. While the situation is improving, efforts continue to clean remaining affected areas.
The "United Efforts for Post-Flood Recovery in Sai Mai District" event underscores the BMA's commitment to leaving no one behind. The initiative involves cleaning public areas, collecting household waste, and ensuring health and safety, supported by a 'buddy district' approach for efficient resource allocation. The Sai Mai District Office continues to monitor the situation to ensure comprehensive recovery and support for all residents.
