Bangkok: The 74th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair has officially commenced, marking a significant moment for the gem and jewelry industry in Thailand. The event, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), is anticipated to draw over 45,000 visitors and generate more than 5 billion baht in revenue.
According to Thai News Agency, the fair has been organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) in collaboration with the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), with support from numerous government and private sector organizations. Over 1,300 exhibitors from Thailand and abroad are participating, occupying 2,800 booths. The fair also aims to expand into the Middle Eastern and Indian markets, following an impressive near 10% growth in Thai gem and jewelry exports in the first seven months of 2026.
Ms. Kirida Paochit, Assistant Minister of Commerce, who presided over the opening ceremony, highlighted Thailand's status as a leading gem and jewelry trade center. The country is recognized as the top exporter of cut colored gemstones and the second-largest exporter of silver jewelry globally. Despite global economic challenges, the Thai gem export industry has demonstrated resilience and growth.
The Ministry of Commerce is leveraging these strengths to position Thailand as a global trade platform, with the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair serving as a pivotal venue for fostering international business connections. This year's fair has introduced The Designer Zone, showcasing creative designs from emerging talents, and has expanded to occupy all available spaces at the convention center.
Ms. Sunanta Kangwalkulkit, Director-General of the DITP, emphasized the department's aim to develop the fair into a global business platform by integrating innovation and supporting emerging entrepreneurs. Initiatives such as The Craft of Brilliance exhibition and The Ones to Watch exhibition are among the highlights.
Mr. Boonyarit Kalyanamit, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GIT, noted that the event has continuously improved over its 40-year history, drawing global importers and fostering business relationships. The fair not only generates immediate orders but also emphasizes added value through Thai craftsmanship, ensuring the benefits extend to the Thai community. GIT's gem testing services further enhance buyer and investor confidence.
