Bangkok:The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced an upgrade in its flood management measures, now expanding the disaster-stricken area to encompass all 50 districts of the city.
According to Thai News Agency, this decision was formalized by Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok and Director of the BMA, who signed a declaration from the BMA's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command. The declaration extends the previously designated disaster area, which included only the districts of Nong Chok, Suan Luang, and Khan Na Yao, to cover all districts effective September 25, 2026.
The expansion is in response to persistent heavy rainfall that has resulted in widespread flooding, causing traffic disruptions and impacting daily life in Bangkok. The situation poses risks to both personal safety and property, necessitating the broadening of the disaster-stricken area to ensure efficient and systematic disaster management across the city.
Field operations will adhere to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550 (2007), along with the National and Bangkok Metropolitan Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Plans for 2021-2027. These measures aim to facilitate coordinated efforts among agencies to manage the situation effectively.
The BMA will continue to monitor the rainfall and flooding closely, collaborating with relevant agencies to carry out necessary actions and provide continuous support to all affected residents.
