Bangkok:The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has implemented a strategic plan to manage post-flood waste in the Lat Krabang-Rom Klao area by dividing it into four zones. This initiative aims to expedite restoration efforts and establish waste collection points.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Pornprom Nawikitseth, visited the Rom Klao Police Station to monitor waste management and post-flood recovery efforts. He observed the deployment of personnel, machinery, and vehicles from various agencies working to expedite waste collection and clean-up operations.
The BMA's approach involves dividing the area into four zones, each managed by a designated unit. Support from neighboring districts and related agencies is being coordinated to prioritize the most severely affected areas. Waste collection points have been established to reduce travel distances for garbage trucks, enhancing the efficiency and frequency of waste collection.
The administration plans to use 30-ton trailer trucks to transport waste from collection points. Excavators will process large waste items before loading them onto trailers for disposal. This method reduces long-distance trips for garbage trucks, allowing them to collect waste more frequently.
Over 400 personnel, along with machinery and equipment, have been mobilized to support recovery efforts. The 'buddy zone' strategy has enlisted help from less affected districts and various agencies, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Department of Highways, and military personnel.
Post-flood waste has increased significantly, with some areas collecting up to 1,000 tons of waste per day. The BMA emphasizes zone-based waste management and collaboration across agencies to enhance efficiency and speed.
Each district will assess its specific situation and develop tailored recovery plans with clear goals and timelines. The BMA aims to restore areas to normalcy promptly, as demonstrated by the successful recovery in the Khlong Chan housing area in Bang Kapi district.
The BMA will continue to work with district offices, agencies, buddy districts, and other sectors, considering private sector involvement to manage high workloads and ensure comprehensive restoration efforts.
