Bangkok: Bangkok has been awarded the title of the most visited city in 2025, bringing joy to both the government and residents. The government is already planning for the future, anticipating a 3% rise in total flights by 2026, and has directed relevant agencies to prepare for the expected surge in flights during the New Year holiday season.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, expressed the government's satisfaction with the results from the Euromonitor International Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025. The index ranked Bangkok, Thailand's capital, as the top city in the world for international visitors in 2025, welcoming a record 30.3 million tourists. This achievement underscores the government's commitment to promoting tourism and highlights the renowned hospitality of Thai people.
Ms. Airin shared that data from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AeroThai) indicated a significant increase in flight numbers for the fiscal year 2025, spanning September 2024 to October 2025, with a total of 904,796 flights. The Winter Schedule for December 2025 projects 84,543 flights, increasing to 87,835 flights in January 2026. The projection for the fiscal year 2026 anticipates 928,165 flights, including 473,364 international flights, 343,422 domestic flights, and 111,379 flights transiting through Thai airspace, with an average of 2,543 flights per day-marking a 3% increase from the previous year.
For the New Year holiday period, from December 29, 2025, to January 7, 2026, projections estimate 27,632 flights, averaging 2,763 flights daily. To accommodate this rise, the government has instructed related agencies to implement measures for efficient air traffic management, ensuring safety and minimal delays during the festive season.
