Bangkok:Authorities are working urgently to clear floodwaters and manage waste, with over 80,000 people seeking assistance in the city.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, and Mr. Wissanu Charoen, Director of the Drainage System Engineering Division, reported on the flood situation at the Joint Flood Information Center in the Government House. They noted standing water under the Khlong 3 Wa Bridge and advised caution for drivers, expecting the situation to improve within the week.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is speeding up efforts to drain water and address flooding in Lat Krabang and Nong Chok districts, while monitoring the eastern coast's water situation. The number of affected districts in Bangkok has decreased to eight, including Khlong Sam Wa and Nong Chok, following an update on October 9th.
In post-flood recovery efforts in Lat Krabang District's Rom Klao community, officials and machinery have been deployed to expedite waste collection, with over 5,000 tons of waste already cleared. The city has collected over 1,000 tons of bulky waste since the operation began, averaging 800 tons daily.
Efforts continue to drain water from main canals into the Chao Phraya River. If conditions allow, water from outside areas may be directed through Bangkok's canal system to aid in drainage and lessen the impact on nearby areas.
As of 800 AM on October 12, 2026, 83,268 people have registered for assistance via Bangkok's online channels. The highest number of requests came from Lat Krabang, Bang Kapi, and Sai Mai, with the most common needs being living expenses, home repairs, and business tools.
