Bangkok: Bangchak Corporation revealed that no leaks were found during an inspection of its fuel pipeline.
According to Thai News Agency, the announcement followed reports of oil contamination in the drainage system near Chueapleng Road and under the Rama 3 elevated bridge. In response, Bangkok Pipeline Transport and Logistics Co., Ltd. (BFPL), a Bangchak Group company licensed to use and manage the pipeline operated by BAFS Pipeline Transport Co., Ltd. (BPT), dispatched personnel to the area upon notification on September 7th. They have been working continuously with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other agencies. For safety reasons and to allow for a thorough inspection, oil shipments through the pipeline were halted from the morning of September 8th.
On September 9th, BFPL conducted an inspection using the Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) method, identifying three points requiring further excavation. One area was found to contain a mixture of water and oil, though the source remained unidentified. Pressure testing was conducted on September 11th to verify the pipeline's integrity, under the observation of regulatory agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and the Pollution Control Department.
Pressure tests were performed in a controlled area, increasing the pressure inside the pipe from 10 to 28 barg, the normal operating pressure level. The results confirmed no leaks, with no abnormal pressure drops or fluid seepage observed.
Further inspections using Short-Range and Long-Range Ultrasonic Testing (UT) scans are planned, covering a 1-kilometer stretch of pipeline from the incident site. An Intelligent Pig inspection will also be conducted to examine the pipe's internal condition. These measures aim to ensure safety before submitting the inspection results to the Department of Energy Business for approval to resume pipeline operations.
Throughout the investigation, Bangchak Group has supported affected communities by providing food, water, and temporary accommodation. The company is prepared to take responsibility and provide compensation if the investigation reveals any damage from BFPL's operations. Contingency plans for oil product deliveries have been prepared to maintain continuity.
