The cabinet has approved a budget of 2.6 billion baht for the construction of an elevated four-kilometre dual rail tracks over part of the Nakhon Ratchasima township, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said.
The 4km tracks is part of the 132km Jira-Khon Kaen dual rail track project.
Gen Prayut said to the media after a cabinet meeting at the Suranaree University of Technology in Nakhon Ratchasima on Tuesday (Aug 22).
The cabinet approval came after the private sector in this northeastern province have voiced their opposition to the planned building of 4-km fences along the rail tracks, saying they will divide the city into two parts.
Gen Prayut said the elevated rail tracks would do away with this problem, as well as traffic congestion in the city. The government will also solve traffic problems in other provinces.
The prime minister said that in his meeting with the governors of the 20 northeastern provinces he had instructed them to study the potentials of the region, of which the per capita income is still low. They are required to study problems over flooding, drought and various risk factors. All sectors should come together to join hands to solve problems, he said.
As I have heard from the people in general and those in the business sector, they are not concerned about the political situation. They are satisfied with the country having been stabilised, enabling them to run their businesses, contact government offices and look for investment channels.
Don't show me any poll results, I am not discouraged. I can stay on even my popular rating is zero. You don't need to say that my popularity is waning, because I can stay on according to the law, said Gen Prayut.
Gen Prayut said that the cabinet also made many other resolutions concerning the acquisition of equipment to find sources of water and retain water as well as harvest tools for agricultural cooperatives.
Concerning tourism, there are problems over dilapidation of tourist spots. Therefore, he had instructed agencies concerned to repair tourist attractions and improve access roads. He had also instructed each region to make a list of five top tourist spots to facilitate public relations work.
I want everybody to pay attention on security issues by keeping abreast with the situations abroad, otherwise they would focus on only internal conflicts.
Even in developed countries, unwanted incidents still occur. So we need to do away with conflicts quickly. Don't let anything bad to happen and hurt the country, he added.
