Bangkok: The Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police has confirmed his intention to prosecute "Big Joke" for making defamatory statements against him and the Royal Thai Police.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, who serves as both Assistant Commissioner-General and Deputy Inspector-General of the Royal Thai Police, plans to address the allegations publicly. He expressed admiration for the use of Ban Phra Athit as a venue for a press conference, acknowledging the role of journalist Sonthi Limthongkul in uncovering the truth.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong specifically addressed remarks made by Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, a former Deputy Commissioner-General, on a television program, where he suggested that the police force was involved in criminal activities. Trairong highlighted ongoing legal proceedings against him, including those involving Mr. Chanonpat, a Songkhla MP. The Technology Crime Suppression Center (PCT 4) has filed charges under the Online Gambling Act and Anti-Money Laundering Act in multiple locations, based on substantial evidence.
Trairong further clarified the case involving Boss Tal, stating that contrary to allegations of inaction, an arrest was made, resulting in a court sentence. However, the sentence was reduced due to the defendant's cooperation. The Anti-Money Laundering Office has since issued a temporary asset seizure and initiated a civil lawsuit.
In another case, related to online gambling, the investigation against Minnie has expanded to include BNK Master, implicating Pol. Gen. Surachet and his associates. Arrest warrants have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing, with the prosecutor currently reviewing the case.
Trairong also touched upon the case involving Provincial Administrative Organization member Golf, who faced charges following an attack on a police officer. The investigation led to multiple arrests and subsequent indictments.
Addressing accusations of involvement in gambling-related crimes during his tenure at the Technology Crime Suppression Division, Trairong stated that arrests had increased, leading to significant asset seizures. He also addressed rumors concerning his press conference with journalist Sonthi Limthongkul, emphasizing his commitment to transparency.
Lastly, Trairong addressed allegations against Pol. Gen. Surachet and Mr. Atchariya Ruangrattanapong regarding a bomb incident at the Royal Thai Police headquarters. He noted the complexity of the case, which is currently under review by the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong concluded by defending the integrity of the Royal Thai Police, acknowledging both good and bad elements within the force. He highlighted disciplinary actions taken over the past three years and reiterated his right to pursue legal action against defamatory statements.
