The Airports of Thailand (AOT) says it is planning to invest 200 billion baht to develop six major airports over the next 10 years.
AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said yesterday that the company has formulated a 10 year master plan for the improvement and development of six major airports with an estimated investment budget of 200 billion baht.
But he stated that half of the budget will go to improving and increasing the capacity of Suvarnabhumi Airport which will allow it to handle 200 million air travelers.
This represents a more than 100 million improvement in passenger handling capacity from the current 83.5 million, he said.
He also disclosed that Suvarnabhumi International Airport recorded a historic new high record when it handled 196,293 commercial air travelers in a single day on February 10.
AOT has 6 international airports under responsibility: Don Meuang international airport , Phuket international airport, Chiang Mai international airport, Hat Yai international airport, Chiang Rai international airport and Suvarnabhumi international airport.
