Bangkok: Academics have analyzed the Anutin government's economic strategy as being truly effective, with a focus on expanding purchasing power from the grassroots level. They highlight the "Half-Half Plus" scheme as a key driver in increasing purchasing power and boosting confidence for the country's progress.
According to Thai News Agency, Assistant Professor Wanwichit Boonprong, a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science at Rangsit University, commented on the government's economic initiatives under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership. He stated that the government has chosen a straightforward approach, delivering tangible results that citizens experience in their daily lives, and driving the economy through coordinated policies.
Asst. Prof. Wanwichit emphasized that this government prioritizes the "everyday economy"-the economy visible in fresh markets, grocery stores, coffee shops, and the daily lives of day laborers-over mere growth figures in financial reports. He noted that the key to reviving the Thai economy lies in building public confidence and circulating money at the grassroots level.
He praised the government for revitalizing markets and communities through the Half-Half Plus program and supporting tourism in both primary and secondary cities. This approach has not only increased purchasing power but also instilled confidence in the economic system, thereby stimulating local economic circulation.
The Half-Half Plus initiative, which began in November 2025, allows citizens to spend via the "Paotang" app, with the government co-paying up to 200 baht per person per day. This policy, designed with a human perspective, considers social psychology and consumer behavior, rather than focusing solely on statistical outcomes.
In addition to the Half-Half Plus program, Asst. Prof. Wanwichit noted that the government is implementing other policies to ensure continuous economic recovery. These include measures to resolve retail debt through the AMC mechanism, a 1.5x tax deduction for tourism in secondary cities, and a community energy project. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive management approach that aims to leave no one behind.
He concluded by highlighting the integrated manner in which the Anutin government links policies across ministries, enabling synchronized economic stimulus throughout the system. This approach has visibly contributed to the economy's recovery, with the public's belief in the government's leadership playing a crucial role in this resurgence.
