Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has taken swift action by convening an urgent security meeting at Government House to address the escalating unrest in Thailand's southern border provinces. For two consecutive days, tensions have been high in these regions, prompting the Prime Minister to call on key security officials and advisors to devise a strategy to restore peace and stability.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin brought together Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha, the Prime Minister's Advisor and advisor to the Government's Special Representative Committee on resolving issues in the southern border provinces; Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan; Mr. Thanat Suwannanon, Director of the National Intelligence Agency and head of the peace talks for the southern border provinces; and Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC). The meeting's focus was to evaluate the current situation and formulate a coordinated response to the ongoing unrest.
In addition to addressing the security concerns in the south, the Prime Minister also discussed the flood situation in Nan Province with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yotsanun Wongsawat, who is overseeing the flood relief efforts. Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, Paradorn Prisnanantakul, was also present to deliberate on flood relief measures. The government plans to submit a central budget allocation to the Cabinet, seeking approval for compensation payments of 9,000 baht per affected household and 330,000 baht per individual who lost their lives in the floods.
