Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, emphasized that the Interior Ministry remains under his jurisdiction and urged all parties to unite against external threats rather than internal discord. He posed a rhetorical question, asking who would sing the Thai national anthem if they were to fight among themselves.
According to Thai News Agency, during Anutin's visit to Ubon Ratchathani University, he monitored surveillance and local warning initiatives. He stated that although Cambodia's measures would not directly affect Thailand, they might lead to increased costs for Cambodian consumers purchasing Thai products, while Thais might pivot towards more domestic consumption.
Regarding Cambodian workers in Thailand, Anutin assured that those earning their livelihood legitimately would be supported for a safe return to their homeland, instructing governors in border provinces to treat Cambodian workers kindly. On the issue of potential power cuts to Cambodia, he noted that Thailand is prepared to comply with security needs, given that electricity sales to Cambodia are based on a state agreement.
Anutin also addressed the border situation, urging all parties to prevent violence for the people's safety. He mentioned that discussions with Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister confirmed no adverse effects on citizens from both nations. He also noted that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) has a negotiation framework, with Thai representatives prioritizing the safety and well-being of the people.
Additionally, Anutin deemed the cancellation of the off-site cabinet meeting in Phitsanulok Province a prudent move, considering the current tensions. He concluded by expressing confidence in maintaining control over the Ministry of Interior, emphasizing the need to focus on external adversaries rather than internal conflicts.
