Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has directed Deputy Finance Minister Woraphat Thanyawong to issue a written statement following allegations linking his name to scammers in Cambodia. Anutin assured that Thailand is committed to investigating the financial connections of the Prince Group and is poised to engage with the U.S. ambassador to combat these issues post the APEC meeting. According to Thai News Agency, Anutin spoke to reporters after a Cabinet meeting focused on combating scams. He underscored the importance of addressing scams as a national priority. Anutin highlighted that multiple countries, including Thailand, are scrutinizing the financial activities of Prince International Co., Ltd. He also noted that the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand had discussions with him regarding scam detection, with plans for enhanced cooperation after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting later this month. During the Cabinet meeting, Anutin was queried about hi s conversation with Woraphat Thanyawong, whose name has been associated with a scam network. In response, Anutin mentioned that he instructed Woraphat to provide clarification via Facebook and a press conference, followed by a written submission to the Prime Minister. When probed about concerns over the stability of the government due to cabinet members' alleged links to scammers, Anutin asserted that any individual found guilty of offenses would face due prosecution. Addressing rumors about Woraphat's appointment as chairman to investigate the financial trails of scam networks, Anutin refuted these claims. He clarified to reporters, "When you say there's none, please report that there's none. I've never had one. I never thought there would be one." Anutin emphasized his role as chairman, with a financial working group led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraphat. The investigation is chaired by Justice Minister Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol Naowarat, with Anutin overseeing the police i nvestigation.
