Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, confirmed that the defamation case involving former Senator Kusumalawati Sirikomut is currently being addressed in court. Anutin emphasized the importance of allowing the justice process to proceed without interference and stressed that the Bhumjaithai Party has taken legal steps to combat slander.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin expressed that the Bhumjaithai Party's legal team has already initiated action to protect the party's reputation. The lawsuit, filed by the party, seeks to address the alleged slanderous remarks made by Kusumalawati, with the court now set to handle the proceedings. Anutin reiterated the need to remain silent and respect the court's process, as legal actions, including a potential counter-suit, are underway.
The case involves a substantial defamation claim by Kusumalawati against Anutin, amounting to 30 million baht. As the legal process unfolds, preparations are being made to secure legal representation for the upcoming court testimonies.
When questioned about the Senate election and allegations of proxy involvement between political factions, Anutin dismissed the claims, asserting no connection to the Bhumjaithai Party. He clarified his role as an MP and minister, distancing himself from Senate-related matters except for instances requiring his testimony or committee appearances.
Addressing rumors of an audio clip suggesting a six-figure monthly deal for senator selection in Nakhon Phanom Province, Anutin denied any knowledge or involvement. He stressed that the Ministry of Interior would not investigate such claims without concrete evidence or formal complaints, especially when the allegations do not pertain to Ministry personnel.
Furthermore, Anutin commented on the Department of Special Investigation's (DSI) operations under the supervision of Mr. Chusak Sirinil, clarifying that the Ministry of Interior's responsibilities do not intersect with DSI activities. The Ministry focuses on ensuring orderly elections for MPs, Senators, and local administrative organizations, a role it has fulfilled effectively since Anutin assumed office.
In response to inquiries about his participation in a vision show alongside former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Anutin stated that he was not invited and instead plans to attend a separate event to send off Muslim pilgrims to Mecca, where travel expenses have been notably reduced this year.
