Bangkok: Anan and Narong have been proposed to serve as members of the Election Commission, replacing Itthiphon and Prof. Santhat, whose terms will conclude on August 12, 2025. The nominations were made by the Independent Organization Selection Committee.
According to Thai News Agency, the Selection Committee for Independent Organizations, which includes the President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Constitutional Court, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, and representatives from the Supreme Court General Assembly and the Supreme Administrative Court General Assembly, has approved the nominations of Mr. Anan Suwannarat and Mr. Narong Rakroi for the Election Commission. Mr. Suwannarat previously served as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, while Mr. Rakroi was the Governor of Samut Sakhon Province. The proposed candidates will now await Senate approval.
The new appointments are necessitated by the impending departure of Mr. Itthiphon Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, and Professor Santhat Siri-ananpaiboon, Election Commissioner, on August 12, 2025. The law mandates the recruitment of new board members within 120 days before the expiration of the current terms.
