Amsterdam: Ajax have sacked former Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham, and Hertha Berlin defender Heitinga, despite only bringing in the former academy product in the summer, following the club's dismal Champions League performance, which saw them lose 3-0 at home to Galatasaray on Wednesday.
According to Thai News Agency, in addition to losing four straight games in the Big Ear Cup, with Ajax scoring just one goal and conceding as many as 14, the Amsterdam football team is also struggling in the domestic league. They are currently in fourth place in the Dutch league, trailing eight points behind the leaders, Feyenoord.
The decision to part ways with Heitinga comes as a significant move by Ajax, as they aim to rectify their poor performance both internationally and domestically. The club's management is under pressure to find a replacement who can rejuvenate the team's fortunes in the ongoing season.
