Air travelers through Don Meuang surge to record high during New Year’s festival

Thais and foreigners use air service in travels during the New Year's festive season in record number with over 207,000 air travelers using Don Meuang airport in just two days on December 29-30.

Don Meuang airport director Mr Petch Chancharoen disclosed on Friday that about 103,000 passengers used Don Meuang airport on December 29 to travel to destinations within the country and abroad in 700 flights.

On December 30, there were 700 incoming and outgoing flights through Don Meuang carrying more than 104,000 passengers, he said, adding that he expected about 106,000 passengers on New Year's Day alone.

Despite the surge in the number of passengers using the airport, Mr Petch said that everything went on fine without any problems.

As far as security is concerned, the airport director said security has been stepped up accordingly with increase foot patrols at the airport and strict baggage checks.
