Rom Klao:Actress Beer-Kwan Usamanee has filed a police report against a man accused of misusing nearly 200,000 baht in flood relief donations. The man, posing as a volunteer, is suspected of deceiving numerous celebrities and monks.
According to Thai News Agency, Ajarn Beer, a prominent figure in the Dhamma, and actress Kwan-Usamanee Vaithayanon approached Rom Klao Police Station seeking legal action. The suspect, claiming to coordinate flood relief, solicited donations on behalf of victims. However, suspicions arose regarding the misuse of funds. Ajarn Beer contributed nearly 200,000 baht, while Kwan-Usamanee donated 36,000 baht. The total estimated damages from all affected donors could reach almost 1 million baht.
Ajarn Beer recounted meeting the man during his flood relief efforts. The suspect introduced himself as a disciple of Luang Ta Sinlapas and claimed to manage logistical support for flood victims. Impressed by his coordination skills, Ajarn Beer donated funds for meal preparation. However, discrepancies emerged when the actual amount of food provided did not match the claimed 4,000 meals per day. It was also noted that many food requests went unfulfilled, leading to concerns that other donors were similarly defrauded.
Actress Kwan Usamanee also encountered the man during her relief efforts. Despite warnings, she donated money, trusting his intentions to support flood victims. Her suspicions grew when identical expense receipts were used to claim funds from multiple donors. She has urged the police to scrutinize his financial dealings further.
A male witness disclosed that the accused had requested a ride to an entertainment venue and attempted to withdraw funds from an ATM. The man reportedly mentioned having cash reserves from "A. Beer" but denied spending significant amounts on personal entertainment. The witness expressed readiness to testify and confirm his non-involvement in the alleged misconduct.
When contacted, the accused asserted his innocence, claiming all donations were used for intended purposes and denied any misuse for personal enjoyment. He pledged to provide comprehensive receipts and cooperate fully with the investigation. Meanwhile, Rom Klao Police Station is conducting a thorough examination of all evidence and financial records to ensure justice and identify any wrongdoing.
