Bangkok: Actress Fon Sananthachat has taken legal action after being contacted by an individual claiming to be associated with high-ranking police officials. Accompanied by her lawyer, Thanawat Limsangkas, Sananthachat filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Investigation Division 1, presenting evidence of an attempted scam.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident began when an unknown individual, using the alias "Mint," contacted Sananthachat via the LINE messaging application. The individual claimed to have connections with high-ranking officials, including the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police. Sananthachat, who has no ties to the Commissioner General, grew suspicious of the contact and refused any defamatory work, fearing it might be a tactic used by scammers.
Mr. Thanawat explained that they approached the cyber police to protect Sananthachat's image and to clarify that she had never engaged in such communications. The lawyer expressed concerns about the impersonation tactics used by the scammers, which could damage Sananthachat's reputation and mislead the public.
Sananthachat took proactive measures by posting a warning on her Facebook page, cautioning others about the dangers of cybercrime. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining her reputation in the entertainment industry and clarified that any altered images depicting her with police officials were fabricated.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepo of the Cyber Crime Division thanked Sananthachat and her lawyer for their cooperation in providing evidence. The division has initiated an investigation to trace the LINE account involved. Gen. Deepo warned the public about scammers impersonating officials to lend credibility to their deceptive tactics.
The Royal Thai Police have yet to issue special orders regarding the incident, as the investigation is ongoing. Efforts are underway to identify and prosecute the perpetrator responsible for the fraudulent contact.
