Acting Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand visits injured people in chemical tank explosion

Prachin Buri, 26 Oct - 'Sumet', Acting Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, visited the injured in the 'Bo Thong 33 Industrial Estate' explosion incident, ordered an indefinite halt to all production, investigated the cause clearly, ordered full compensation for the dead and injured. From the case of the explosion in the factory of Xiao Xiang Nan-Ferrous Metal Co., Ltd. in Bo Thong Industrial Estate 33, Prachin Buri Province today (26 Oct. 2014), which resulted in 2 deaths, 12 injuries, 8 of whom were able to return home and were admitted to Kabin Buri Hospital. After the incident, Mr. Sumet Tangprasert, Director of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), acting as the IEAT Governor, visited the Bo Thong 33 Industrial Estate to inspect the incident and visited the injured at Kabin Buri Hospital. He revealed that after receiving the report of the incident since 9:30 a.m., he ordered the coordination of relevant agencies to urgently stop the incident and help those affected, as well as to monitor to prevent a repeat of the incident. As for the injured and deceased, they have been compensated in accordance with the IEAT regulations to the fullest extent. Mr. Sumet continued that the initial inspection of the area surrounding Xiao Xiang Nan-Ferrous Metal Co., Ltd. did not find any chemical leakage smell. The IEAT will continuously monitor and inspect the environmental management to ensure it complies with environmental standards and has instructed the company, the owner of the area, and related sectors to closely monitor and prevent further impacts. 'For the area where the incident occurred, an order has been given to stop operations in the area where the incident occurred indefinitely in order to investigate the cause of the incident to a conclusion and for the company to make corrections and improvements to meet the standards set by the NBTC,' said Mr. Sumet. Mr. Sumet reiterated that the IEAT will monitor and supervise the factory to strictly follow the order and will take every possible measure to create safety in the industrial estate, take full care of those affected, and supervise the factory's environment to ensure that it complies with quality standards continuously. As for the chemical inspection process, the IEAT will coordinate with experts from external agencies to inspect the chemicals at the scene to build confidence in the surrounding communities and ensure that it complies with the good business standards in the industrial estate. 'The IEAT would like to express our condolences to the deceased and injured from the incident. We are aware of the concerns of society and would like to confirm that Bo Thong Industrial Estate 33, which is under the supervision of the IEAT, has strict safety and environmental care standards. However, we must admit that the incident occurred due to force majeure,' said Mr. Sumet. For Bo Thong Industrial Estate 33, operated by Bo Thong Industry Technology Co., Ltd., on an area of 1,746 rai, Bo Thong Subdistrict, Kabin Buri District, Prachin Bu ri Province, there are 323 workers under the company. It signed a contract with the IEAT and announced it as an industrial estate in January 2024, and some parts are under development, divided into 3 phases, 2 years each, totaling 6 years.
