A huge branch of the century-old Bodhi tree in Ayutthaya historical park which is wellknown under the name of Buddha's Head in Tree Roots broke off during a thunder storm on Tuesday.
Fortunately, no one was hurt although there were about 30 tourists near the scene where the Bodhi tree is located. It was reported that one official of Wat Mahathat noticed that the huge branch was at risk of breaking off the tree and warned the tourists to stay away.
Ayutthaya district chief officer Mr Somsak Charoenpaitoon said he had contacted the fine arts office in Ayutthaya province to bring workers to the temple to prune the huge Bodhi tree for fear that some of the branches may break off if there is another thunder storm.
