2nd Army Area Commander Emphasizes Integrated Drug Suppression Efforts in Northeastern Region


Udon thani: The 2nd Army Area Commander and the 24th Military District Commander have conducted an inspection and delivered policy directives on drug suppression efforts in the upper northeastern region. The focus is on integrated operations and proactive intelligence to combat drug trafficking groups and networks along the border.



According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksin, who serves as both the Commander of the 2nd Army Area and the Commander of the Northeastern Border Narcotics, Precursor, and Chemical Suppression Command, made a policy statement at Phraya Sunthon Thammathat Camp in Udon Thani Province. He was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Mongkol Hotong, who provided a briefing. The meeting was attended by commanders of subordinate units and the Chief of Staff at the 2nd Army Area Narcotics Suppression and Interdiction Command.



Lt. Gen. Weerayut outlined that the government’s policy framework, as well as directives from the Minister of Defense and the Army Commander-in-Chief, will center on proactive intelligence gathering and collaboration with relevant agencies across provinces. The measures are intended to tighten border control and suppress drug activities, thereby protecting national sovereignty.



The Second Army Region commander stressed the importance of serious commitment to drug suppression, highlighting the need for proactive intelligence against drug networks. He emphasized the establishment of checkpoints and blockades along key routes, as well as intercepting drug trafficking by water, urging cooperation with relevant agencies to decisively target dealers, transporters, and users.
