Phetchabun: A 19-year-old man involved in a tragic accident has become a beacon of hope for six individuals, following his family’s decision to donate his organs to the Thai Red Cross.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Director of Phetchabun Hospital honored the young man, Mr. Wiwat Phukyoo, with a certificate of appreciation and a wreath from the Thai Red Cross Eye Bank and the Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Center.
Mr. Phukyoo lost his life in an accident while returning from Chon Daen Hospital, where he had been to obtain a medical certificate for a factory job. His grandmother, Mrs. Prathum Wongkhamchan, shared that he lived with her due to his mother, Mrs. Chutikarn Wongkhamchan, needing to work in another province. On May 29th, he suffered severe injuries after colliding with a tractor while on his motorcycle, leading to him being declared brain dead.
Faced with this tragedy, the family chose to donate his organs as a final act of merit. The donation included his heart valves, liver, both kidneys, and both eyes, potentially saving up to six lives. This selfless act was seen by his grandmother as a way to honor his memory and help his soul transition to a better afterlife.
