Chachoengsao:The grieving family of "Nong Eya," a 15-year-old golfer who tragically died after being struck by lightning, has taken her body to hold religious ceremonies.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at Lotus Valley Golf Course during a youth golf competition, resulting in two serious injuries. Nong Eya and her caddy, Ms. Saithan, were both struck by lightning, leading to cardiac arrest. Despite CPR efforts and immediate transfer to Bang Nam Priao Hospital, Nong Eya could not be saved. She was later moved to Phuttha Sothon Hospital, where she passed away.
The lightning strike happened on Ongkharak-Bang Nam Priao Road at around 400 PM, while the tournament was ongoing despite bad weather conditions. Nong Eya's father flew back from Myanmar to be with her, but she succumbed to her injuries. Her mother, Ms. Natcha, posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing grief and the decision to let their daughter rest in peace. The family has since moved her body to Darul Ibadah Mosque in Chonburi for Islamic rites.
Nong Eya's grandmother, Ms. Aphorn, described the severity of the lightning strike, which caused burns and tore Eya's hat. The delay in medical assistance was due to the absence of an ambulance at the golf course.
Ms. Saithan, the caddy, remains hospitalized under medical supervision. Meanwhile, reporters were barred from entering the golf course to gather more details about the incident, as management denied access.
