Police have rounded up all the 10 Uighur illegal immigrants who escaped from a detention room of an immigration checkpoint in Nong Khai province Monday night.
Pol Lt-Gen Natthorn Prohsunthorn, commissioner of the Police Immigration Bureau, said Tuesday that the ten Uighur escapees did not plot their jailbreak in advance, but took advantage of heavy rains and a temporary blackout to break out of their detention room.
Also, the security of the detention room was not as tight as it should have been.
Meanwhile, four immigration officials, including a deputy inspector, who were on duty on Monday night when the mass escape took place were transferred to the operations centre of the 4th region immigration office pending an investigation.
The commissioner warned that if it was discovered that any immigration officials were involved in abetting the escape of the ten Uighurs, they would face disciplinary actions.
